Crystals

Crystals are the reason this world was named Crystal World. When mages first settled here, they were amazed by the abundance of vessels available to develop their magic system.

Here are the most popular types of crystals mentioned in the Two Worlds series:

1. TIME CRYSTALS

Time is merciless, as mages say, so it must be used wisely. In Crystal World, all mages measure time with special time crystals. Mages simply check their pocket crystal, which gradually changes color throughout the day. It starts red at midnight, then shifts to orange, yellow, and so on, moving through the spectrum until it returns to red at noon.

But it isn’t only a pocket device. Mages also enjoy decorating public spaces with these crystals so everyone in town can keep track of time. Besides, they look stunning. In the stories, you’ll find many such places: the fountain in Santos’ central plaza, the courtyard in Middle Lake, and the bridge of wishes in Dragonville (formerly Triville).

Thus, twice a day, time goes around this rainbow circle:

2. MEMORY CRYSTALS

Memory crystals are recording devices that capture voices. Mages use them to listen to their favorite music, while journalists record important conversations to replay and write articles later.
Guardians also use these crystals to record suspects during undercover missions – valuable evidence that can later be presented in court.

3. CALLING CRYSTALS

Calling crystals are a relatively new invention in Crystal World. When two mages wish to communicate, they can call each other using the crystal simply by thinking of the person they want to reach.

Sounds easy? Maybe. But there’s one condition – they can only call someone who has previously touched the crystal with their Light. Technically, no one can contact a mage without their consent. I know, right? I wish we had the same system in our world! It would solve the entire spam and fraud problem.

4. TRANSITIONAL CRYSTALS

Transitional crystals can imitate a limited number of Gifts. For example, translating foreign languages. These crystals can only be used for a short time and must be regularly recharged by the Gift carrier.

However, not all Gifts can be imitated – some are too complex and require direct involvement from the Gift carrier. For example, mind-reading or hypnotic powers cannot be imitated because they demand advanced skill in accessing or influencing another’s mind. External powers also can’t be transferred through crystals, as they require interaction with energies only accessible to those who possess the specific Gift.
