And live your life to the fullest



Why do we have fears?


I mean, wouldn’t it be nicer if we just become fearless and do whatever we want in life, without thinking of all possible failures and mishaps? Wouldn’t it be much easier to pass an important job interview if our voice didn’t shake, and we didn’t sweat like a marathon runner?


Perhaps, it would be awesome to feel confident. However, too much confidence might also kill us. Just think of it – how many times the fear of falling kept you away from standing too close to the cliff edge? How many times did you say ‘no’ to suspicious strangers who suggested ‘lift you’ or give you a ‘treat’ when you were a child?


You see, fear is a natural evolutionary tool with the purpose to keep you alive. At the same time, fear can be a powerful emotion that holds you back from reaching our full potential. Here is good news – with the right mindset and strategies, we can overcome it and thrive. In this post, we will explore three key steps to conquering your fears and living your life at full.

Before we get to these steps, let’s classify our fears. They might be rational or irrational. Rational fears serve a purpose in protecting us from potential harm or grave mistakes – the situation with the cliff edge and suspicious strangers are the ones that fall into this category.


What about irrational fears, then?


Often, they are the fears that limit us from experiencing new opportunities. It’s something that does not impose direct harm but rather feels like an uncertainty and overwhelming responsibility that you might not be ready to handle on your own.


To conquer irrational fears, the first thing you need to do is to educate yourself on the subject matter. When I started thinking of becoming a writer, I felt like I was about to jump into the abyss. However, reading books about how to improve my creative writing and attending webinars helped me to have an idea of where to start my career.

By gaining knowledge and understanding, you can feel more confident in facing your possible challenges head-on. Whether it's through reading books, attending workshops, or seeking guidance from experts, education can empower you to overcome your fears and take control of your life.


Secondly, the power of community can be a valuable resource in conquering your irrational fears. Connecting with people who have faced similar fears and challenges can provide you with support, guidance, and encouragement. By sharing your experiences and listening to others' stories, you can gain valuable insights and perspectives that can help you navigate through your fears.

For example, I started attending a writers critique group when I was preparing my first fiction story for publishing. Since then, I’ve always been a member of this group where I can find support, ask questions, and now share advice with aspiring writers. Building a community of like-minded individuals can create a sense of belonging and camaraderie, making it easier to confront your fears and conquer anxiety.


Lastly, the art of taking small steps is a practical approach to conquering your fears and achieving your goals. Instead of overwhelming yourself with a huge, scary goal, break it down into smaller, manageable tasks. This strategy helps me each time I work on my new book series, when I need to split work into the separate stages I work on: writing, editing, preparing design work, etc. By taking small, consistent actions towards your goals, you can gradually overcome your fears and live your life to the fullest.



Conquering your fears and living life at full is a journey that requires courage, determination, and resilience. By educating yourself, connecting with a supportive community, and taking small steps towards your goals, you can overcome your fears and embrace new opportunities with confidence and enthusiasm. Remember that fear is a natural emotion, but it doesn't have to control your life. Take the first step today towards conquering your fears and living your life to the fullest!
